Hello! My name is Benjamin Smith, and I am a recent graduate of George Mason University with a strong affinity toward video game programming. I have assumed central programming positions in over 15 game projects - independently as well as in collaboration with up to 30 game developers - and possess extensive knowledge and experience in utilizing the Unreal and Unity engines and C++ and C# programming languages. I'm always excited to learn new engines and programming languages to further expand my skills in software development.
I believe my greatest strength is my passion and drive to be excellent in everything I do. No matter the circumstances, I show my love for what I do in the way that I do it, and through my ability to share that passion, my life will always be rich.
In game development, I've loved every second of designing, coding, and playtesting my games, in a group as well as independently, and put in the effort to make my work excellent. Late night coding sessions with friends were the highlight of my time at GMU, as our comradery sweetened the sweat and tears we poured into ambitious projects like Polypore and Mason Mayhem.
When I'm not hard at work coding my next game in an IDE or game engine, I greatly enjoy playing music on a variety of instruments. I'm a lifelong drum set player, playing casually in my youth before gaining a mastery of the instrument during my time in the Green Machine pep band at GMU, where I quickly learned and performed nearly 100 songs at basketball games, campus events, and more.
Since graduation, I've continued to practice and perform with the drum set, but I've also begun developing my skills with acoustic guitar and harmonica, which have quickly become my favorite pastimes. With enough practice, I hope to one day play all these instruments simultaneously in a cohesive solo performance.
